In Islamic history, there are a few places that are considered symbols of spiritual peace, love, and blessings. Among these, one of the holiest sites is Masjid-e-Nabawi, the final destination of faith and devotion for Muslims around the world. It is the sacred place where the beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) worshipped, educated his companions, and from where the light of Islam illuminated the entire world.
Historical Background
The foundation of Masjid-e-Nabawi was laid by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) himself. When he migrated to Madinah, the first thing he deemed necessary was the construction of a mosque—not only as a place of worship but also as a center for education, a social court, and a hub for resolving the affairs of the Muslim community. Initially, the mosque was built with raw bricks, with its roof made of palm trunks and leaves. Over time, the Khulafa-e-Rashideen (Rightly Guided Caliphs) and subsequent rulers expanded and renovated it, turning it into the magnificent and spiritual landmark that stands today.
Spiritual Virtues and Devotion
The greatest distinction of Masjid-e-Nabawi is that it houses the Rawdah Mubarak (the sacred resting place of Prophet Muhammad PBUH). According to tradition, the Prophet (PBUH) said:
"One prayer in my mosque is better than a thousand prayers in any other mosque, except for Masjid al-Haram."
This is the very mosque where the Ashab-e-Suffah (Companions of the Platform) used to sit and seek religious knowledge, where Hazrat Bilal (RA) called the Adhan with deep love and devotion, and where every moment of the Prophet’s life was spent in worship and guidance.
One of the most special areas within the mosque is Rawdah al-Jannah (The Garden of Paradise), which is considered a piece of paradise. Standing there and making supplications is a lifelong dream for every Muslim, as it is the very spot where the Prophet (PBUH) frequently stayed and prayed.
The Experience of Entering Masjid-e-Nabawi
The moment a lover of the Prophet (PBUH) steps through the doors of Masjid-e-Nabawi, their heart fills with devotion, their eyes well up with tears, and their lips automatically begin to recite Durood and Salam. The first glimpse of the green dome overwhelms the soul, making it difficult to hold back emotions. The serene silence inside, the waves of love radiating from the walls, and the tears of visitors all testify that this place is truly a glimpse of paradise on earth.
Prostrating in Masjid-e-Nabawi, touching its walls with reverence, standing before the Prophet’s resting place to send Salam—these moments outweigh a lifetime of experiences. One's inner world transforms upon arrival; all worldly worries fade away, and it feels as if every prayer and every tear reaches directly to Allah.
The Ultimate Destination of Love
Madinah and Masjid-e-Nabawi are the final destinations for every true lover of the Prophet (PBUH). Here, one realizes the fleeting nature of worldly life and prays from the depths of their soul:
"O Allah! Grant me the honor of visiting Madinah repeatedly, and make me a humble servant at the doorstep of Your beloved Prophet (PBUH), so that my soul may forever remain in his presence."
Masjid-e-Nabawi is not just a place of worship; it is a beacon that enlightens the hearts of believers, teaching them the essence of love, sincerity, and sacrifice. This is why every Muslim’s greatest wish is to visit Masjid-e-Nabawi at least once in their lifetime, to kiss its blessed walls, and to breathe their last in the fragrant air of Madinah.
O Prophet (PBUH)! May we be granted the opportunity to prostrate in the streets of Madinah time and again and become humble seekers of the sacred dust of Masjid-e-Nabawi.
